After reading Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” or William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily,” discuss in a short MLA formatted essay (350 – 450 words) the unreliability (or reliability) of the narrator and give examples from the text to support your belief. Your essay should include the following: • A short introduction, consisting primarily of your thesis statement. • A body paragraph for each of your examples (Three is a nice, round number.) • In-text citations • A work cited page for the short story only o You should not cite any sources other than the short story (“Tell-Tale Heart” or “A Rose for Emily”) o Do not use long quotations from the text as you do not have enough word count to do so. • A short conclusion consisting of one or two sentences. This essay will allow me to quickly check your understanding of the basic essay structure, grammar and mechanics, and MLA format and both in-text and full-source citations. If you do not know MLA style, please refer to the MLA Formatting folder located in the Writing Resources folder.
