During this course you will actively apply the concepts and theories you learn to a real-world problem. You will create a plan for forming a community collaboration with the goal of solving or addressing the problem. Through the various assignments, you will describe the problem, the community, and the various stakeholders. You will identify the people who should participate in solving the problem. You will apply analytical tools to the problem and use the findings to shape the final project: your strategic action plan for a community collaboration on a topic of your choice. The final project will consolidate the information you have gathered into a cohesive plan that addresses the necessary elements of a successful collaboration:

• • Evaluate theories and practices of collaboration between community and government.
  • Assess methods of citizen involvement and advocacy in collaborative efforts.
  • Analyze public decision-making that is appropriate for collaborative efforts.
  • Examine participative government methods for aspects of problem complexity, stakeholder participation, obstacles, tangible results, and acknowledgement of success.
  • Analyze how collaboration promotes sustainability.
  • Analyze the factors that contribute to long-term successes and failures in collaborative settings.
  • Support your ideas with properly cited peer-reviewed sources.
