Historians analyze the past by studying different types of evidence to better understand the past. Not only do historians document the past, they often compare eras to explain change over time. Most often, Historians study the agency of individuals who contributed to that change and, in some cases, proposed solutions for solving the problems they faced during their lives. In this final assignment, I want you to focus on all the historical writing skills that I emphasized in this course: historical significance, historical agency, thesis formation, argumentation, and citations.
In this final assignment, write an essay that assesses three problems facing the contemporary United States (2000-2020). Start your essay with an introduction and a thesis. For each problem, first explain the problem and the origins using both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Second, examine how specific Americans, groups, companies, or institutions contributed (Used historical agency) to solving or causing the problem. Finish your essay with a conclusion that proposes how these problems might be solved in the short or long term. Use at least three academic sources other than your textbook for your essay. One should be a primary source.
