The multi-national organization that we have chosen is Uber.

 

2. Ethic Dilemma: (please succinctly describe the ethical dilemma that you have identified at the

company that you have selected. The dilemma can be past or present. A past dilemma can not have happened more than 5 years ago.)

 

The multinational corporation that our team has chosen for our project is Uber. Uber has experienced several ethical issues over the years. The one unethical issue that stands out the most would be that Uber has been found guilty of not conducting proper background checks of their drivers; this has led to sexual assaults and harassment of passengers.

 

 

3. Ethical Framework: (please explain the ethical framework that you will use to analyze the ethical dilemma that you have identified. Will you use deontology, consequentialism, virtue ethics, etc.? Why did you decide to you use this ethical framework?)

 

For this project, we will analyze the topic using deontology. This approach to ethics focuses on determining if the action is right or wrong under a series of rules and actions themselves. In the case of Uber, the company has a moral obligation to conduct background checks and to keep the drivers and customers safe.

 

 

4. Global Citizenship Program: (Please describe the global citizenship program that you will recommend to address the ethical dilemma that you have identified.)

 

The Global Citizenship program recommended to address the ethical issues of Uber will be to find alternative methods and ideas and apply them to fix the problems. Currently, Uber’s method of conducting a background check of its drivers consists of running a background check using social security numbers. This method has flaws because of social security numbers can be fake if the drivers had something to hide. Uber should add a fingerprinting system to run a background check on their drivers; additionally, Uber should include a ride check feature in its Uber App; this feature will activate if the car suddenly stopped for an extended period or other inconsistency. At this point, Uber will attempt to call the driver or passenger to see is everything is fine. Also, Uber can create an emergency feature on its App that the driver or passenger can press to receive help in emergencies.

the ethical issue not be addressed? What is the impact to the organization’s bottom‐line

should the ethical issue be addressed?

community.

stakeholder groups such as government, competitors, et cetera.

determine the consequences of addressing or not addressing the ethical issue on

various stakeholder groups.

5. Corporate Citizenship Program (~5 pages) (this should be the main focus)
6. Program design: Describe how you will execute on the strategies that you’ve identified

above. Please be sure to “put together” a high‐level yet reasonable budget (with line

items for each cost center that would be impacted). For example, full FTE or half FTE at

$60,000.00 should you find the need to hire someone due to limited internal resources.

Other cost centers to consider: T&E, T&D, etc.

1. SWOT analysis (or similar business tool): Use the SWOT analysis or similar tool to

determine which strategy best aligns with your organization given the SWOT analysis.
