When studying the events from past, historians look for the effects and causes that would help in explaining why and how the event happened. The source is approached by using a different set of skills and experience and they begin the analysis by looking at the physical nature of the source. They make effort to distinguish history as an account from history as an event where historical account is the represents the past events and history as an account is something which happened in the past. In constructing the account, there are four basic steps that are used by historians and these include framing problems to study, analyzing and selecting available evidences, information organizing and account creation. For answering the questions about any event occurred in the past, historian’s uses primary and secondary sources and they make use of evidences from these two sources to answer the questions. They seek for the trustworthy and must sort through evidences and choose crucial one and there is the possibility that some information gathered to analyze the source might turn out to be false. When examining the evidences, historians either deepen the mystery or they get new answer to the questions depicted from the source.
The item of interest or any particular topic is the starting point of the analysis followed by investigating and raising some general questions. There is a generation of more specific questions related to the topic resulted from investigation. In the next step, different sources such as book, people and internet research are noticed by the historians. Research of past events are targeted easily when the questions framed are more specific. The accuracy of source is established by using internal and external consistencies. Therefore, historians enquire about the when, why and who created when representing any source.
