Here is the situation….
An older Chinese patient refused pain medication following gall bladder surgery. When questioned by the nurse about the refusal of medication, he responded that he could
make it without medication even though he was obviously in pain. He explained to the
nurse that he did not want to impose on her or the hospital. She explained that it was a
part of her job and the hospital’s responsibility to make him as comfortable as possible. He reluctantly took the medication.
Do a little research on Chinese culture and determine if this was a case of not
understanding his culture.
