RESEARCH QUESTION AND HYPOTHESIS

The aim of this geographical report is to find a correlation between friction, rainfalls, human activities, and landslides. Landslides can and do occur in every state and of the U.S. However, the type frequency of landslide activity varies from place to place, depending on the terrain, geology, and climate. The choice of the states is made using two different selection methods: the random sampling method and the systematic sampling method. Through the internet investigation on the selected states, the research is going to try to answer the question: what is the relationship between friction, rainfalls, human activities, and the status of landslides? The analysis of the collected data will help the attempt to demonstrate the following hypothesis: the correlation between the 

INTRODUCTION

Landslides are defined as a sliding down of a mass of earth or rock that represent damage-causing geomorphic phenomena in most populated mountain environments, such as, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and Washington State, as well as other mountainous states. The analysis in this assessment is intended to prove what factors contribute to landslides. How landslides can be avoided and prevented, the primary interests for land-use policies based on landslide mapping, followed by the prediction of landslide processes and their consequences.
