Background for Discussion One:

After the French and Indian war, the British controlled (what is now) southeastern Michigan from Fort Detroit. This change from French control was markedly worse for the native populations in the area.  On May 5, 1763, The influential Ottowa chief Pontiac called a council and gathered the heads of local tribes, the Ottowa, Ojibwe, Huron, and Pottowotamie, to encourage them to take action.

Pontiac’s speech is recounted in a manuscript transcription of the original French account of Pontiac’s siege of Detroit.  It was given on the shores of the Ecorse River in what is now Council Point Park in Lincoln Park.  What came of the speech was a joint attack on Fort Detroit.  The British commander of the fort had advanced warning and repelled the attack which involved weapons smuggled under blankets.  It turned into a siege lasting two months which failed to force surrender.

Read the speech and try to put Pontiac’s argument into standard form.  There’s more than one argument in the speech; you can work on the main argument or one of the others.  Post your own version of his argument from scratch.  Then you might comment on someone else’s version or rearrange it; if you’re rearranging you might say why you’re making changes: charity or faithfulness or some other reason.
