Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities, but they rather vary in their desires to reach their potential. With this in my mind, I have lived a modest yet ambitious life, and have always strived to do my best in every challenge I faced with great tenacity. Unlike my friends who pursued a University degree upon their high school graduation, I spent a vigorous youth following my dream as a successful founder in the field of hospitality. I had craved for letting Hong Kong people to know about Korea properly and promote Korean culture via hospitality business. Therefore, I devoted about a decade time to facilitating Han-ryu to Hong Kong via my business and mass media. However, at this point in my life, my intellectual curiosity and academic desire refused to stop and be satisfied at this level of achievement. Therefore, I entered Poly U SHTM to become a better person. I was doubtful about whether education may fulfill my desire. I believed it might not be worthy to enter university while living as a distinguished person. However, my passion towards learning new things from others and helping The Greater Bay Area(‘GBA’) business to Korea and Korea business to GBA has won over my stability in life. Hence, I entered university and obtained BSc within 3 years while I was a full-time worker.
By studying further and gaining a wider experience in hotel and tourism study, I believed I recaptured my true passion in life and encounter better opportunities in life by combining my work experience and studies. On the other hand, as a person who led more than 200 employees in the service industry, I wanted to polish my business skillset and network in the professional field. Hence, I decided to fulfill my emptiness at HKUST Business School, where I can expand my knowledge and network, and talent in a more international environment. It was a valuable chance for me to gain much more extensive experience and a chance to compete within a diverse range of groups. During my HKUST MBA program, I met talented students who are well recognized in a big 4. I learned a lot of business acumen through my friends. One day, I shared my plan which is connecting business from Korea to Hong Kong and Hong Kong to Korea, and they were inspired by my enthusiasm, hence, we have established a management consulting firm and angel capital in order to bridge Korea with GBA.
While working as a managing director at a consulting firm, I found that most Korean startup companies hesitate to land in GBA because of a lack of information such as law and business competitiveness and network, albeit, I strongly assert the economic benefits and advantages of GBA market. It is very hard to persuade them without legal professionalism even if we have some partners who are a lawyer. Especially startup companies to believe in Korean consultants more than overseas people. After I have listened to a number of entrepreneurs’ considerations, I decide to apply for the LLM program at HKU. I believe that this program will transform me into a better person who can connect GBA and Korean startup companies
I consider myself to be fortunate enough to follow my genuine goal in life when most people forget about their ambition in their pursuit for money or fame. That is the reason why I want to pursue my studies further. I believe that “The future lies in the hands of those who dream.” This quote has been the guideline by which I have led my life in accomplishing my personal goals. I believe I still have much to learn, and I know that I am still striving to achieve bigger dreams. By studying LLM at HKU, I look forward to quenching my thirst. I am ready for this next adventure in my life.
