Weber’s Rationalization thesis led him to explore the nature of modern representative forms of democracy, and in so doing he makes a strong connection between Bureaucracy & Democracy. In a few sentences, what are some thoughts/ideas you have about this relationship? (unnecessary evil, necessary evil, generally benign or good, etc…)
A quick note: the lectures for this module were recorded in the run up to the 2020 presidential election. Perhaps the relationship between politicians and civil servants/bureaucrats has come into even sharper relief since then!
