Adolescence learn how to establish boundaries for intimacy, which is very important when considering that the next phase is young adulthood, when they learn to participate in a stable partnership with a partner (Syed & McLean, 2017). At thie stage adolescent become more interested in the opposite sex, they begin to think about the future as well as challenging society’s norms (Syed & McLean, 2017). This stage bears an association with extending the boundaries of the world. Puberty is observed as a time of change in people’s behaviours, physical changes, and psychological changes (Syed & McLean, 2017). This stage in life is often associated with criminality as the development of rational thinking skills and the movement towards finding identity create conflict between adolescents and authority and the need to challenge authority (Syed & McLean, 2017). In adolescence, the crisis comes from a struggle between identity and a lack of identity. As a result, stage 5 will influence a person’s character into adulthood, impacting the way they feel about the prospect of a long-term relationship or even causing them to become too dependent on their partner and unable to achieve independence due to their over-dependence on partners and families (Chung, 2018).
Erikson’s model of psychosocial development reveals that poor early development is associated with higher depression rates and poorer life outcomes (Malone et al., 2017). Also, psychosocial development in the early years of an individual’s life has been linked with better socio-emotional outcomes and lower rates of depression (Malone et al., 2017). A psychiatric assessment should provide coherent, integrated descriptions of an individual’s present life, personal history, and circumstance; describe psychopathology, including biological, psychological, and social factors influencing, perpetuating, and mitigating symptoms; identify resilience factors; and describe the individual’s current and potential level of functioning (Dingle, 2016). Environmental factors, circumstances, and relationships are of particular importance to children and adolescents due to their developmental and legal vulnerability. PMHNPs must understand the normal stages of child development and the behaviors that indicate failure of developmental stages (Dingle, 2016). Afterward, the client’s history and behavior are compared to the known norm.
