- Using the following scenario (situation) to create and compose a narrative demonstrating your understanding of this rhetorical mode and answer one of the following prompts.
Background / Scenario:
You have just taken a nice trip to the beach with your significant other, and while they have run back to the boardwalk to buy you a nice gift, you’ve continued to walk on the beach. As you do, you stub your toe on something. You reach down, curiously, and find that what has been hidden beneath the surface is a lamp. A magic genie (yes, just like Aladdin’s) erupts from the bottle and gives the following speech:
"Master, I have been trapped inside my bottle for 1000 years. Thanks you from releasing me from those confines. As it so happens, you have just been granted the ability to accept three wishes. There are, however, stipulations…rules shall we say, considerations which you must adhere to, should you choose to accept them.
They are:
- You must use each wish in the service of someone else.
- You may use these wishes for material, spiritual, or physical needs.
- You may only use one wish per person.
- There are no wishing for more wishes, no transferring of wishes, etc…
So, what do you say? Do you want the wishes, or must I return to my bottle for another 1000 years?"
Prompts (choose one):
- Take the three wishes, explain who they would be used for, why those individuals deserve them, and how the wish would be beneficial. You may also choose to do something sadistic and mean, but karma granted you the discovery of the lamp, so that seems in poor taste. Stay positive. Support your decisions with examples and define terms like "good person" or "deserving." Think like a reporter.
