School Law Research Paper Topics and Directions
Directions:
The paper should be at least five pages in length, not counting bibliography, references, etc. Please follow APA format. (See the APA format link for help.)
Choose a topic. Then provide background about the issue, describing why it was controversial or important. Discuss the major court cases connected with the issue, as well as any important legislation related to it. Review your own district’s policies on the issue (I work for Conroe ISD in Texas). Finally, tell us where we stand now with regards to this issue and what school administrators need to know about or pay attention to connected with this issue. So we have:
–Background/Importance
–Major cases/laws
–Your district’s policies on the issue
–Where we stand now
–Ramifications for school administrators
Possible Topics
–Monetary assistance from tax dollars to non- public schools or to parents of private school students.
–Student freedom of speech—school newspapers.
–Searches of students, their lockers or their property.
–Prayer at graduation.
–Use of school facilities by groups outside of the school day.
–Student responsibilities and possible punishments concerning use of the internet and writing damaging or untrue things about the school, other students or school administrators on web pages, Facebook, etc.
–Sexual harassment of or by students or staff.
–Process, procedures and rules when students apply to be admitted to your public school district.
