This is a legal position paper – ie you will write to defend your side of the moot. Stick to your allotted sub-topic – ie if you are writing about the CoR, just write about the exact sections of the CoR that are relevant to winning your case. If you are writing about jurisprudence – only write about which specific legal theory can be used to support your case. You are NOT required to provide a balanced paper.
AVOID DOING THESE THINGS
· Describing the case, the law, the theory – assume knowledge.
o Don’t write out whole sections of the CoR – “s.2b” is enough
· Describing the case – we know what the case is & all the details, get to the argument
· Personal opinions – your opinions in the moot do not matter. You are a lawyer, only the law matters
· Submitting it late. This has to be submitted the night before your moot. NO EXTENSIONS GRANTED
· Not knowing which side you are on
· Plagiarising
Try to do these things
· Assume knowledge. The person grading your paper knows the law, the case & the jurisprudence
· Include references – from legal & academic sources.
· Argue a point, be sure in your stand, be bold
· Win your case for your client
