What are the top three takeaways from this course?
The top three takeaways from this course includes the importance of properly preparing and presenting professional project presentations to both internal and external stakeholders, the SQUIRE guidelines, and project sustainability.
How will you integrate these into your professional work?
Integrating these takeaways into professional practice will include utilizing presentations more to provide a grand opportunity as a change agents to inform, educate, motivate, and/or persuade the audience. Speaking with confidence, gratitude, and understanding as well as using the power of words and images, to engage the crowd and keep them attentive can be integrated as well. Also, having a clear understanding of the content that is being shared, developing strategies to stay within allotted time frame, and allowing time for questions and answers to show respect and appreciation for the attendees will be important.
Sharing the SQUIRE guidelines with fellow coworkers and the leadership team will be important and useful for health care professionals on my unit when systematically reporting project work, formally or informally, to improving quality, safety, and value of healthcare.
Being mindful of all the time, energy, efforts, and resources that are used to research and implement the project, as a project manager it will be necessary to protect the project from falling short of its goals or early demise. Addressing sustainability practices in the beginning of project development and being proactive regarding financial and non-financial factors to support the project’s long-term economic, social, and environmental impacts will definitely be imperative to implement.

I enjoyed this course very much. The first take away is a feeling of accomplishment. Thinking back to the beginning of the Practicum I course when I was contemplating what to do for a practicum project, and then to the beginning of this Practicum II course when we were submitting our project portfolio, and now to this week when we are updating our practicum project portfolio with what we have accomplished in this class brings an immense feeling of accomplishment and pride.
The second takeaway is when undertaking a project, the need to stay organized. Each week, we were completing more and more assignments that built on the weeks before. It was essential during this course to stay focused and organized. This would be true during any project management. Utilizing the tools that we now have to help with project organization will make managing a project and staying organized much easier which in turn will help to bring about a positive outcome to the project.
The third takeaway from the course is how to be a better presenter. Recording our presentations and then sharing them with each other to get feedback was such a useful assignment. The feedback I received was so helpful for not only my actual presentation, but for future presentations as well.
I will utilize what I have learned from this course in my current role as Unit Manager and future role as Director. I am often asked to assist other peers with projects and now have many tools that will be useful in managing these projects. Presenting in front of others is always a little intimidating, however, the more we practice, the easier it becomes and the better we are at it. I will definitely utilize what I have learned from our presentation assignment in my everyday work.
