Below is the criteria you need to have for the mini educational plan for each of the children:
Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregard, Mike Tee Vee and Charlie Bucket…
For each child you need to have the following information:
1. Child’s full name, name of parent’s, family background (meaning where the child is from, what the parent’s occupations are, names of parents, who lives with the child…etc.) (if the information was not mentioned in the movie…be creative and make it up!!)
2. Characteristics, behaviors, habits, disorders, etc. of child (including, child’s manners, self esteem, personality…etc.)
3. Description of the undesirable behaviors/actions of child, especially that which disqualified the child from the running of the "lifetime supply of chocolate" during the factory tour.
4. Finally, here is where you can be creative and where I hope to read the most details and descriptions…..
Give possible reasons for the child’s personality/behavior flaws, based on the information you gathered from the movie, as well as your own creative speculation, and then suggest a solution, again using your own creative suggestions, as well as drawing on things we have discussed and read this semester, (such as, possibly enrolling the child in a Montessori Program for better individual academic achievement at the child’s own pace)….etc. Of course, it must be educationally sound, nothing ridiculous or socially unacceptable.
For extra credit, I would like you to choose one child and come up with one child geared activity that you feel would encourage him/her in improving his/her situation/behavior. For example…if you chose Augustus Gloop, you might diagnose his problem with poor parental guidance in his eating habits, and you might include in your plan having the family meet with a dietitian to discuss a lifestyle of healthier eating habits. To encourage the child with a hands on activity….you might have the child make a chart of food that he enjoys now that are not healthy, and help him to find a better choice to foods that are healthy. For extra credit you can attach a sample of this activity/worksheet that you developed and would use with the child you have chosen
Remember, although some of this essay will be based on actual facts, I am looking to see how creative and innovative you can be, based on your opinions, your ideas…even drawing on your own experiences.
