Paper Proposal Guidelines
Before you begin your Family Issues Paper, you are required to turn in a one to two page proposal for your paper. Use no larger than 12-point font, and no more than double spacing. You will not receive credit for your final paper until your proposal has been approved. You must turn in a paper proposal in order to get credit for your final paper.
Be sure to include the following elements in your proposal:
• Explain the sociological issue on which you have chosen to focus in your final paper.
o What most interests you about this issue?
o Why do you feel this issue is important in the study of the family?
o How is this issue especially relevant sociologically?
• Discuss any ideas you may have about how you will address the topic in your final paper.
• Remember, you must utilize at least five (5) academic sources, in addition to course texts, in your final paper.
o An academic source is peer-reviewed, and published in an accredited journal or by an academic press.
o If you are unsure if a source is an academic source, please do not hesitate to check with me. You may also learn from the reference librarians on campus.
o The Forsyth Library has a number of academic journals available for students electronically. You may find beginning at the library or on the library’s website to be the best place to start: https://www.fhsu.edu/library/
o Do not utilize websites such as Wikipedia, as they are not peer-reviewed academic sources.
