I have already completed the abstract with 10 references approved by my Professor and have attached it. This part has already been approved and has to be attached to the research paper. Also the journal articles listed are the ones that have to be used. Only 15 more will have to be added. Professor’s Requirements: The bulk of the paper should be based on information from refereed journal articles and should be incorporated to provide for an analysis of punishment or treatment efficacy. No two students should have the same topic so you should let me know as soon as you identify a topic. Once you select a topic and it is approved by the professor it is expected you will complete your assignment on the reserved topic you selected and reserved. This paper is a historical analysis and you may reference books other than those used in class to supplement the journal articles used in the core of the paper. Do not use textbooks as references. Make sure to see me if you don’t understand any part of these directions. A minimum of 25 refereed journal sources is required for each paper. Remember law review articles are not considered refereed journals for this assignment. Papers should be limited to 30 pages including the title page and reference pages. This study should be original and developed specifically for this class. It can NOT be a revision of a paper submitted in another class. All papers will be reviewed in Turnitin.com to assess plagiarism and material in this paper drawn from papers in other classes. Remember the length of a paper is not always a good measure of quality. Quotations should be kept to a minimum and preference should be placed on paraphrasing information. Students are expected to write in a journal style incorporating multiple imbedded references to validate references and declarative statements. See me if you don’t understand this guidance. Students are expected to use the most recent edition of the APA publication manual. Specific criteria for the grading of the paper are offered below. Deviations from the assigned topics are possible but must be approved by the instructor. Papers developed and presented in other classes are not acceptable. Such papers will receive a grade of zero – don’t take the chance! Papers should be submitted in hard copy and disk format. Make sure that you incorporate the 10 approved peer reviewed references into your paper.
Make sure that 20 of the 25 peer reviewed references are from the last 10 years.I don’t expect you to understand the statistical analysis at this point in your graduate education, but I do expect you to understand what the dependent and independent variables are in each article, the issues being researched and the meaning of results summarized in the conclusion.

I reiterate that students who have relied on an online version of the APA guidelines generally don’t do as well as the students who refer to the hardcopy or online versions of the Manual.
Don’t forget that following the APA is a relatively small % of your total grade. The largest % of your grade will come from the synthesis of the material assigned for class and the peer reviewed journals.
Do not “stack” references. Instead organize the information by topic areas and integrate the information from your research and the assigned class readings.
Avoid the use of quotes by paraphrasing and citing the information. The APA manual has a thorough explanation on how to cite and paraphrase information from your sources.
