General Format of the Research Paper:
1. The format of the paper should be as follows:
a. Intro: define your topic and summarize the main points that are coming up in the paper. For this main pro and con ideas. State that the topic is controversial.
b. Next should be an in-depth background of the topic. Either a history or explanation of procedures or whatever is needed. This is paragraph 2.
c. Pros and Cons: please have at least one pro and one con paragraph. Typically there is a paragraph for each main pro and con.
i. Present and explain in detail the pros and cons associated with the topic (recommended to present at least 3 main pros and 3 main cons)
ii. Support each pro and con with data and statistics that can show its strength or weakness. For each of the arguments you need to present actual research and specific evidence (data, statistics, studies, etc.) to validate the argument. Each argument should be presented and discussed within its own paragraph using specific evidence (scientific data, statistics, studies, etc.) to explain the argument. This is where your strengths/weaknesses discussion comes in. The research and evidence that you present when explaining each argument is what demonstrates how the argument is strong or weak. You must do this for EVERY individual argument.
iii. Really dive into the supporting evidence to demonstrate your knowledge. Pretend your audience knows nothing about your topic, and you are the expert. By the end of the paper, the reader should have enough information to make an informed decision (supporting the pro or con).
d. Conclusion: A conclusion paragraph with your own opinion and how you reached it. Be sure to clearly state if you are pro, con, or undecided on vaccines, and then discuss how your research specifically validates your position. Include cited research in the discussion.
The conclusion is the only place where you should personalize the paper or express your opinion. It is where you discuss your position based on the evidence you included in the body of the paper when you presented the pro and con arguments. It is ok to use “I” in this paragraph.
2. You MUST use in-text citations in APA format throughout your paper to show where your information came from. All information taken from your sources must be cited. Papers without these ae considered plagiarized which is illegal and unacceptable by Penn Foster. It will also result in a grade of 1%
3. Be sure your cover page and reference page are properly formatted in APA format.
